Development Trends and Prospects of the Synthetic Diamond Industry

With the increasing maturity of artificial diamond technology and the rapid development of the Chinese economy, China has accumulated and made significant progress in diamond tool manufacturing technology, possessing strong manufacturing capabilities. Due to the huge advantage of labor costs and the catch-up trend in technological research and development, Chinese enterprises have a significant advantage in product cost-effectiveness. With the rapid growth of market demand, diamond tool enterprises in various regions have launched their businesses one after another, and a group of advantageous enterprises with international competitiveness have emerged. China has become an important producer, user, and exporter of diamond tools in the world, with an annual output value exceeding 10 billion yuan.

1. The application of synthetic diamond in emerging industries is expected to further expand. With the continuous improvement of synthetic diamond grades, its excellent performance is expected to be widely used in high-tech fields, such as for the processing of precision instruments such as aviation instrument bearings, radar waveguides, optical components, and high-energy smoke detectors; Can be used for cutting, grinding, and efficient precision processing of 0.1-0.2mm thick wafers of monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon, as well as satellite solar panels; Can be used for micro precision cutting, slotting, backside thinning, nanodiamond polishing and other processing of large-scale integrated circuits such as computer chips; High purity large single crystal diamond can also be used to make high-strength optical windows for power compression tests, window holes for certain devices in extreme environments, and components for studying nuclear fusion energy. Developed countries around the world prioritize the development of superhard materials and products, including synthetic diamonds. The research and application level of superhard materials and products to some extent represents a country's level of technological development.

2. The proportion of high-grade diamonds in China's synthetic diamond market is relatively low, and there is a large space for increasing added value. At present, the domestic output value of superhard materials and products is approximately between 1:3 and 1:6. With the continuous growth of the downstream superhard material product market, the market prospects of superhard materials are very broad. The market demand for high-grade diamond accounts for approximately 60% to 70% of the entire market. According to the current level of domestic technology, the proportion of high-grade diamond products is relatively low, only about 25% to 30%. Compared with the 60% market demand, the gap is 30% to 35%. Due to the overall technological and quality level of diamond products in China lagging behind developed countries, over 90% of high-end products used in industries such as electronics, automobiles, home appliances, and CNC machining rely on imports. Therefore, there is great potential for development in the field of high-end superhard materials in China. In recent years, the application objects and fields of synthetic diamond have been continuously expanding, and the market demand has become more vigorous, showing a sustained and rapid growth trend.

3. In the future, the demand for diamond will increase and the price will rise steadily. In the next few years, the market demand for synthetic diamond in China can still maintain a compound annual growth of more than 15%. According to industry association statistics, the production and sales of synthetic diamonds in China increased from 1.6 billion carats to 5.4 billion carats from 2001 to 2009, with an average annual compound growth rate of about 16.4%. In the next few years, the demand of China's synthetic diamond market can still maintain an average annual growth of more than 10%. It is estimated that the domestic market demand will reach 7 billion carats in 2012. With the technical progress of the domestic synthetic diamond industry and the improvement of product quality, China's synthetic diamond products are gradually recognized by international customers. According to the statistics of the industry association, the export volume of China's synthetic diamond increased from 153 million carats to 1.35 billion carats from 2001 to 2008, with an average compound annual growth rate of 37%. With the production capacity and price advantage of China's synthetic diamond industry, the export of China's synthetic diamond and its products will continue to maintain a rapid growth trend.

In short, with the continuous development of synthetic diamond technology, diamond tools and synthetic diamonds are gradually applied in new materials, new processes and new equipment, and China's own advantages in the synthetic diamond industry, it is reasonable to believe that China's synthetic diamond market will usher in a golden development period in the next few years, and maintain a high-speed development trend.
